Tube flies are designed to shoot up the leader when a fish hooks up.  It
keeps the fly away from the fishies teeth so he doesn't chew it up.
It also enables you to tie long patterns on lighter tubes with short shanked
hooks.  The fish can't use the fly as leverage to knock the hook from his
mouth.
It also enables you to just replace the hook when the points break or dull
without throwing away the fly.  
There are so many advantages to using them if you like that kind of
fishing/tying.
Just another dimension to this disease.  :0)

I'll have to study up on those tube flies.. I thought they were just to make
