Eric..with regards to the panfish, they could have been crappie.  If i'm not mistaken , the West River flows into the Connecticut thus the fish go elsewhere...My beloved White empties into the Connecticut in White River Jct VT, so with some of the water i hit, the smallmouth and browns/rainbows cohabitat.   Though i wonder if you might have gotten into some shad as well....   Tom Swahn Vermont
