What to look for: If Katrina tracks slightly west of New Orleans, the
damage will be the most severe, including up to 10'-50' of storm surge
over and above the 7' high levees. The barrier islands of Breton and
Chandeleur were taken out by Hurricane Ivan and Dennis, leaving little
protection for New Orleans.
Other information:
30% of the nation's gasoline and 25% of the nation's liquid natural gas
comes through New Orleans. You should put a full tank of gas into your
vehicle before the storm hits the New Orleans area. The port of New
Orleans, refinery operations, pipelines, offshore drilling etc. are all
vulnerable and any damage to these may take weeks to repair and gas
prices will skyrocket.
Prayers go to Mark Delaney and other listers in Louisiana and
Mississippi.
Please contribute to recovery efforts if at all possible.
