"Recently the volume of emails on the list has grown incredibly. I
receive all my e-mail at my office, Monday through Friday. I went
through all the mail last Saturday ( a rare weekend visit ). This
morning I have 218 new e-mails. It apears that about 95% of them are
from the VFB list..<SNIP> So does anyone else feel the "weight" of so
much e-mail traffic on the list??"
Odd you should bring that up. An hour ago, I was corresponding with a
lister we all know who has dropped off the list because he doesn't have
time to deal with all the VFB emails. I know I get frustrated with the
"chatter', and there are probably a number of other folks out there who
feel the same way. If Byard has to pay bandwidth charges, then all the
"chatter" costs him money as well.
Byard put it well in a recent post: ask yourself if what you are
posting is of real interest to the bulk of the VFB, if not, don't post,
or minimally post a reply privately to that individual. Don't treat
the list like a chat room (that is what the chat room is for...)
This is just one of those issues that arises periodically within any
popular discussion list. Then people have to turn into List Moms and
Dads to keep things on even keel.
We are not saying a little banter isn't welcome once in a awhile.
But, keep in mind, we are unnecessarily losing list members, and nobody
would want that to be happening.
