My daughters girl scout troop would like to get in touch with a fire dpt down in that region. We would like to put together care packages and get them down there around christmas time. Can you help me locate a couple of fire dpts down there to contact in the short future?

The major relief effort here in Louisiana is being done by the American Red Cross.  If you put "Katrina" on your check the monies will only be used for hurricane relief.

At the moment in Lak Charles we now have 2100 evacuees/refugees housed in the civic center with the number expected to increase.  Many of these people essentially have nothing to go back to now...no homes, no jobs.  If they can not fix the levee on Lake Ponchatrain and the levee on the Mississippi, the water is only going to get deeper in the New Orleans/jefferson Parish area.  It may be months before the water problem is oslved.  Don't expect new Orleans ever to be the same again...we can probably expect many businesses to relocate  to higher ground after this.  So there will probably also be an economic depression to hit this area as well.   So I urge those of you that can to be generous...the southeast  Louisiana, south Mississippi and south Alabama areas are really hurting at the moment and need your help!!
