Tie in the hackle by the tip with the dull side facing you. Tie it in where the tail marabou is tied in. Tie in the chenille in the same spot. When tying in the chenille, strip off the fuzz and tie in just the thread end of the chenille. This keeps from leaving a bump at the tie in spot. Wrap the chenille just short of the hook eye. Pick up the butt end of the hackle feather and start the wrap. The wrap is done flat on the chenille. You can follow the space in the chenille wraps. You will find that the hackle will twist so that the dull side is now against the chenille. Wrapping it flat will raise the barbs and not trap them. When you get to the tie off point behind the eye, , strip the barbs off the stem, with your thumb and first finger, pull the barbs back and make a couple of wraps with the bare stem at the tie off point. Wrap the head, whip finish. Pull the tag end of the thread tight and slice off the thread. Stretching the thread and "slicing" it off makes the end
slide back under the wrap leaving a clean head.
Hope this is clear enough, it would only take a few minuets to show you how to do it if you were where I could.

When you tie off a hackle quill, and a tiny length of that quill sticks out past the thread wraps, and the fish don't mind, cause I'm just talking 1/32th inch or 1/64th an inch of quill here, but to make the fly look "perfect".. and to clip that tiny amt (WITHOUT cutting into the thread), what is the best thing to clip that tiny quill with????
