As a historical note, the celebrated salmon fisher, A.H.E. Wood of greased line fame, fished for a time with blue and red painted hooks. He caught fish.

And the way I see it, a Bare Hook Nymph would be lacking 2/3 of this. But it
would sure be a creative one, that's true. I wonder why I haven't seen a
genious idea like that in any of my books. Better look again... maybe pages
have stuck together.

(It certainly is the perfect fly to tie professionally... not much of
material cost... and you don't need a Nor-Vise to tie it really really
fast.)
