To our amazement, it  was a pod of carp - coming out

FEEDING on the alga and coming out of the water to do so.

We were amazed.  Neither of us had ever seen anything like that

I have seen that at the dams here, and it is soooooooooo frustrating to see huge ones do it         Del

Well seeing as how the vast majority of my carp are caught on a “blade of grass” fly

or a “piece of bread fly”, if I were you guys I would start tying an “algae slimed rock” fly.

Heck, I bet DonO can whip up one out of spun deer hair in a minute or less.

And it should be easy fly for Tony , I love epoxy, Spezio.
