Go to your nearest hardware store and get some Naval Jelly.. it is caustic,
so use it outside with gloves on. Paint it on the vise, then rub it and the
rust off. If the problem is in the screw of the vise, some WD-40 or rust
relief will work to undo the rust. When you have finished using Naval Jelly,
rinse it well and wash it with soap and water as it leaves a rather filmy
residue. Then, paint the area with some POR 15 or Hematite (comes in a spray
can) which will leave a coating that sticks to whatever rust is left and
will keep further rust from forming. You can find the Hematite paint in the
autobody area of your hardware store or paint shop. Good luck. Joyce
