our "cake and eat it too" so to speak... We can't go using MORE oil
everyday, and not end up having to drill outside the Arab countries... That is a fact.. I'm no PhD, but supply and demand is what dictates here... We want the oil, then we will (eventually) Have to drill in our own back yard..

Well, it may be accreting extraterrestrial stuff at a slow rate (just as some scientists argue that most of our water, and at least some of our original biological macromolecules came from outer space ;-)), but that won't be nearly enough to fulfil our growing fossil fuel demand...

You're quite correct of course to state that IF you (we) want to continue and increase our energy-rich activities, we should a] take responsibility for that and b] potentially develop alternative sources of fuel, or alternative energy sources altogether.

Whether drilling in sensitive ecosystems (and arctic ecosystems are very sensitive, primarily because biology is so slow there due to low temperatures) is a responsible solution to the very real problem outlined above is quite another matter.

That diminishing dependence on outside sources of energy/fuel is a good thing (whether for the US or for the EU) is without question.

Cheers
