Todd Since Jimmy D and Don O wont fess up, here is the story (...;-0...)
behind the "Swimming Jimmy" fly.
You see it was like this,
On a dark windy knight, (after being skunked all day), Jimmy D was
working on some Muddler Minnows in the cabin, near the south fork of the
west branch of the middle river feeding the Mississippi along the Chata
hoocie drainage. Buggs snuck in and slipped a few "Mickies" into Jimmy's
drink. After a while Jimmy D was using anything he could to tie these
muddlers, including Don O's beard.
Well, the next morning they hit the river, Buggs and Veronica leading,
Jimmy D in a stupor and Don O bringing up the rear. Jimmy D was slaying all
the fish in the river, small mouth, large mouth, speckled trout, sturgeon,
catfish, crappie, blue gill, orka's you name it they were hitting Jimmy D's
fly, ( the "special" muddler).
Don O got so discussed that he snucked up on Jimmy D. Just as Jimmy made
a world class cast up stream, Dr. D "Pushed", (so the story goes), Don O and
he half kicked- Punted Jimmy D for the extra point. At the same time the
fight started.
You see, when the fly hit the water, just before the "Push", "Mega-Fin,
(the blue cat/ sturgeon/ humpback), sucked in Jimmy D's fly. It yanked him
into the water as if he was on roller skates. Buggs pushed Dr. D inn and
Veronica was screaming. Don O only smiled and poored himself another Hybrid
scotch with Habinarero twist.
Well, Ol Jimmy D fight that humpback cat all the way down the
Mississippi to the Cuban coast. The Coast Guard saw him skiing like a pro
through hurricane Fernando, jumping 80 foot waves, with his wading staff
dangling behind him, (hence the term "Storm Chaser" was born).
President Taft demanded that the Guard rescue such a brave individual,
so they tried. 3 Weeks later, with a carrier task forfe they finely got
Jimmy D on a fast frigate. He was still fighting ol "Humpy".
Just off the coast of Newfoundland he landed the beast. But, it san the
aircraft carrier and half the fleet. The only photo showed him with a broken
rod, floating on a piece of driftwood in the bearing straights, old Humpy
got away.
After 3 years and countless miles, Don OF still denies that Bugs pushed
him in, stating that "Jimmy DO wanted to "Swim with the turtles"". Likely
story.
Jimmy was so tired and bewildered that when President Nixon ask him what
fly he was using he could only give a web site,

Believe it or not, that is the story that Dr. Demento told me over cld brews
on the west bank.
