Hey Chuck (and everyone)-
I was thinking some more last night about the brim flies, as I stood
in the pooring rain... It is a long story, but I'll try to tell it
anyhow - Our dog barked to be led on a walk. While it was pooring
rain previously, at that time it was drizzling at best; I thought the
storm had passed. Well, as luck would have it, we got maybe a half
block, and here comes the terrential rain. Our dog didn't want to
turn around and go home, and I was already soaked to the bone, so I
finished the walk... or that was the plan. Well, we got through 4
miles of our 5-mile trek and we're stopped by firemen - 2 alarm
blazing house fire on the 1 and only road into (and out of) the
townhouse development we live in. No cars, TV people, pedestrians,
nothing - road was closed for a good hour or so. In the pooring rain,
mind you. Just as I was contemplating going through the poison ivy,
drainage ditch, etc to bee-line to the house around the fire, the
marshal let us go through. Well, as if that wasn't bad enough, my
wife tried calling the house to let me know that on her way home from
Pittsburgh. the roads were flooded and she couldn't get into the
town... which is bad in its own right, but after an hour of trying the
phone with no answer, she pannicked and called my folks, her folks,
and then the police... SO! Lotta explaining to do, but in the end,
all turned out OK and the fire marshal got a laugh over it... I'll
laugh about it soon, I hope, but it made for an interesting evening,
to say the least! So the point of that long story: I had lots of time
to think about flies last night, and a few more came to mind...
especially when I opened up my "Panfish" flybox to see what it had in
it... There are others I use (Copper john, etc) that aren't here, as
my box needs to be restocked. In a few weeks, at best, it'll be back
to the cold winter and cabin fever! Regardless, here's the list of
what is in my "Panfish" box as of now:
Black Gnat, Brown Hackle (similar to the Spitfire, but with Brown Hen
versus the Guinea, and other small differences), the Royal Coachman
(Wet), Bee, Lord Baltimore, McGinty, Cahill (Wet), Katydid, Bivisible,
Willow leaf Spinner, Tup'd Indispensible, Professor (great during the
heat of day, Wet style), Yellow Sally, and the Idaho B&B Special
(deerhair streamer) in size 4 or smaller... that should get ya' going
:) If you can't find recipes, just ask, but most (if not all) should
be online somewhere.
Tight wraps, and let me know how the fish bite,
Pete
