t's cleaned out now...it wasn't pleasant. It took about 5 minutes before I could control; the gag reflex when I got to the bottom...then I became immune to the smell...

Tomorrow we have to go to the grocery and see if we can find some food...we've been eating take out today, but that's got to stop.; Also need a few more cleaning supplies to take care of a little bit of mildew from the minor roof leaks. The leaks didn't drop any water in the house, but I've got a few ceiling tiles beginning to mildew. Need to replace a couple of things we used up clenaing out the back porch where the freezer is.

I'm pooped. But I took some pics of ou house and yard, and tomorrow I go around town and take a few more pics and put them up on a web site. I was going to do that tonight, but I'm just way too tired to do that.

The landlord put a tarp on the roof today over what seems to be the major leak, which wasn't where he thought it would be. This house was built in the 1930s and although built on piers, it is built really well.  The outside walls have asbstos tile over wood walls over substantial framing, and then the inner walls are wood, which has since  been covered with drywall. So there is lot more structure to the house than a modern house.   This is the
second essentially category three hurricane  it has survived (Audrey in 1957 came through the Cameron/Calcasieu area, previous hurricane to hit here before that was in 1918).

There is stuff blown into the yard that I have no idea where it came
from and it must have come from several blocks away and crossed the
elementary shcool's althletic fields about a block to the south of
us.

Lake Charles is extremely busy, with lots of people trying to repair things and get things back to normal. It looks like I may get to go back to teaching  at McNeese State University the week of October 24th; but no definitive word yet.

The local schools are going to start October 25th. That means everything will have been suspended for just about a month.
