Used a sz 16 Al's fly for the whole time I was out. Caught 46 fish. All were warm water fish from Crooked Creek. Most were bluegills about the size of my hand. Did get a smallmouth about 6" long. On an earlier fishing trip to CC, I hooked a Carp on a sz 12 Al's fly, it straightened out the hook. I just sent some shots to Joyce. If someone would like to post the photos on their website, I would be glad to send then along. Maybe Byard will chime in. Tony What I refer to as Al's Fly is really a modified Winter Fly. Al calls it a Winter Fly B Here is the way I tie it Hook: Scud sz 12, 14 Head: Black brass bead size for hook. Weight: Just enough lead wire to fit in the bead recess Thread: Black Tail: Short strands of Pheasant tail Rib: Fine copper wire Body: Several fibers of pheasant tail wrapped to the thorax. Wing Case: Black crow wing fibers Thorax: Peacock herl Legs: A couple of soft black hen fibers. I use the ones from the JV hens Slip bead on the hook, wrap lead wire. Attach black thread, wrap the shank down the bend a bit Tie in tail fibers, tie in rib wire and body fibers. Wrap body fibers to the thorax. Wrap rib, about 4 to 5 turns. Tie off at thorax, Tie in wing case fibers . Tie in peacock herl and wrap thorax. Tie in three leg fibers on each side. This can be done by taking a hen feather and cutting out the tip of the feather leaving a "V" in the top. Then strip off all the barbs leaving three barbs on each side where the "V" is. The barbs and the stem now will form a "Y" Tie in the stem right behind the bead leaving the three barbs on each side of the thorax. Pull the wing case over the thorax leaving the legs extended. Tie off the wing case right behind the bead head. Whip finish. Add some head cement to the wing case and the whip finish. Tony
