1700 recipes?! Why, the Virtual Fly Box has well over a thousand, Hans has a ton and if you really want to get serious, I can find a printed list of hundreds of websites that have tens of thousands of patterns.
Like DonO said, get a cheap CD burner or even a diskette drive can be had for free from many sources these days as they only hold 1.44mb which should work fine for your needs. Ask around.

I am compiling a CD of around 1700+ recipes gathered (not all different but
I a sure there will be enough variation there) from myself and a couple
others on this list. I will begin putting it together in another week and by
end of November will have it completed. I will post you a copy as soon as it
is done.
If some of you are interested, maybe we can do a cd swap at some point.
Basically put together a CD with Patterns, rod building and other articles
compiled from VFB members. I am prepared to do all the compiling and donate
the CDs for whomever may wish to participate.
