Subject: Re: [VFB] Vest Question???
Chuck,
The optimization of gadget to pocket assignments on a vest with 20 (or 22)
pockets is, as hardly needs mentioning, not dissimilar to optimization of
folding of an extended polypeptide. It would seem that there could never
be enough time to sample all the possible iterations before reaching an
optimal state, vis a vis targeted functionality at a minimized energy cost.
I have determined - in the case of the vest - that the primary options for
such optimization entail either:
1) altering the space-time continuum such that one party (or multiple
parties if that's the way that ya swing) can sample all possible
combinations in such a manner as to determine the proper assignments
necessary to maximize
a) ease of assessment of gadget location in a variety of environmental
conditions (is it dark? is it cold? are you wearing mittens? are the
fish taking emergers?)
b) ease of gadget deployment (in said conditions)
c) ease of gadget replacement once need has been rectified
2) just putting stuff in the vest in a quasi-logical manner and
determining, either following or during the course of "having a fish on"
(NOTE...I did not say a "FISHON"...which is different and I don't think
that I can post that here) whether or not it works for you.
Through such experimentation...I chose option 2, in case you were
wondering...that I like my 'stats (on a long zinger) on the left (I'm a
righty), that I like my nippers (on a short zinger) on the right (I'm a
righty), two small fly boxes on the left, one large flybox on the right
(still a righty), strike indicators (I'm a traditionalist) on the lower
right, weight above that, extra tippet on the lower left and a hip flask
full o' single malt on the inside left (not on the hip, as one would
think....that's the "fly in the ointment" as they say...but it works for
me).
Caveat Pescator!
This configuration might not work for you. As I mentioned, I am a
righty. You might not be. If you are a lefty - which we have not yet
ascertained (by "we" I mean "me") - you might enjoy the 'stats on the
right. Or not. My configuration STILL MIGHT WORK FOR YOU!!!
That's the confusing thing about science...ya just never know until you try
it out.
Have fun with experimentation.
Cheers,
Chris
