Originally,the old style Pennsylvania style "Sucker Spawn " was tied on a regular dry fly hook. .  Whatever you choose Joyce I prefer thin wire hooks as I have experience loosing to many fish from penetration problems because the diameter of the wire is to fat. I'm trying to tie and use things I've not done before. I'll get some sucker spawn eggs done.  Are you using a 2-3 x long wet fly hook or a scud/caddis type hook?  Joyce
