A reply that has nothing to do with cauterizers, but still a way to shape (feather barb) legs and burn your fingers in the process... "heat crimping": Heat up a pair of tweezers, pinch at the crimping location and bend the leg to where you want it.

I have been looking at some of Oliver Edwards patterns and techniques and thought they would be fun to do. I have only come across one that costs $17 at an online store.
