A slider "slides" across the surface leaving a wake, or sometimes is used with slope of the body to pull it slightly under the surface.  a more gentle presentation than the rapid "pop" and sit  usually used for poppers.  I use sliders when bass are keying in on minnows cruising on the top of the water.  You can of course use a popper to leave a wake, by slowing retrieving it and leaving a wake.

Greetings from Trout Country...

Can someone please quell my curiousity and explain why a 'slider' is
called a 'slider'??
