Well, here's another one of those teeny tiny fly tyers (the fly anyway) coming out of the proverbial woodwork. Last time I saw Jerry at Somerset, he had a microscopic Adams parachute size 28 pinched in one of those fly grabbers and shoved right up in my face. While it was impeccably tied, he cheated and used thread.
As for looks, I haven't been following Mr. C's pictures since we last fished Cedar Run and he ran back to camp thinking there was a copperhead by the stream. Lots of rattlers up there Jerry but my guess is Drew saw a water snake instead since copperheads are rather sparse in the 40 years I've been up there. Maybe he does look dapper these days but even Byard hasn't seen ME since I lost 20 lbs. Hey Jerry, I might even SHAVE this trip!
No carvings on my Mustard colored OFFICIAL IOFF MEMBER VFB cap but if I don't go to Erie for steelies, I'll get my Claude Freaner beaded trout out to display and wear one of my NEC VII, X or XII t-shirts with a trout print on the front by Stephen Di Cerbo. Maybe even pack my FF@ forest green cap with the impossible to remove caddis Byard snagged in it years ago (okay, it wasn't Byard's fly but it sounds better than saying I walked behind a beginner) and figure out how to secure a display of hundreds (more like thousands) of swap & gifted flys in my collection.
But the most telling feature will be the teeth of a steenkeen snakehead dug deep in my posterior with her rotting flesh and skein hanging under the skeletal remains. Seems Jerry's right about them attacking just about anything. If the crowd won't allow you to browse at belt level, just follow the smell (or head away from it might be wiser).
The only business left for all to ponder is whether to petition the VFB to begin a snakehead fly page. This could include all those big ugly old flys we tied back in the beginning that we never imagined would catch anything. Byard??? Yeah, right, the eye can't be covered (but that was due to the rum-dums!).
