I do not own a large arbour reel. Most of my fishing is done on rivers and streams. If the fish is on the larger size it generally takes line until it is on the reel. If it is a smaller fish I generally wade out of the current and onto shore or shallow water. If I feel there is a need I will wind up any slack line with one hand while I hold the rod and line in the other hand. It may seem a bit awkward at first but it becomes second nature after you've done it a few times.

Subject: [VFB] Line control and Large Arbor Reels

So, I have two questions:
1. How do you land a fish on a river with current ? If you do not use the
reel, how do you control the excess line.

2. If you do use a reel, is it a large arbor?

Thanks,
JG
