Harmen: We have a similar (perhaps the same) mayfly on some of our western
streams. It is a slow-flying mayfly with a long tail. At times, on summer
evenings, they hatch abundantly, and stimulate quite a feeding frenzy. (One
stream which I frequent will have those, and the regular Baetis, several
caddises, Gray Drakes, Yellow salllies, and golden stoneflies in profuse
numbers in the air and on the water). I match this one with a mayfly pattern
(size 14-16) using the same colors, dubbed body, and a barred ginger grizzly
hackle for the wings and hackle collar. I have called it the Ginger Adams. (No
relation to Ginger Allen). Works well here.
