Well I am glad it helped Rodney. The Akroyd is actually classed as a Dee
Stripwing pattern not a Spey pattern, BUT it is a classic. You are like me
in as much a you have to try it now
and wont wait for the postman !! LOL I have actually ordered some bits from
the Grate Byard's company. I just pull my hair out for a couple of weeks
waiting !!
If you want a couple of patterns I will be glad to send them on for you.

Keith,
Thank you for the info... It really helped considerably... Just got back
from "Sportsman's Warehouse" getting the materials I was short of and
unfortunately had to spend $.45 more per package of 10 hooks, (Daiichi
#2051, [Alec Jackson Spey Hook], size #3), than getting them from Byard...
Sorry Byard!!!... So, I'm going to start tying tonight... Still
undecided
on whether I want a white wing or a speckled wing... I want these to be
"perfect" reproductions so I'm giving myself enough time to practice tying
them...
Rodney...

Hi Rodney,
I think the White Akroyd is a beauty of a fly. I dont think it would look
great on a lure hook though whatever the size. Go with the salmon hook
types
rather than streamer or lure hooks. I use a hook called a Bartleet hook.
I
am going to use a 3/0 if I can find materials to match the hook. Like
hackle
and wing which is mallard bronze.
Check the web for what these hooks look like and you will see they are
totally different from the hooks you were going to use. As for the hook
suggested in your book it would certainly make the fly you send special
if
they were tied on those hooks ! :-)
I believe a certain Linesend inc has them for sale if you look here:
