I've heard of including garlic in your diet to help keep flying biters at bay. Even tried it this summer at Scout camp on the Chesapeake bay that is notorious for it's voracious mosquito population - seemed to work to some extent although I did resort to a mosquito net at night. Never heard of it for snakes though. My understanding is that most snake bites occur when you step on or near one and the strike is a fear/defense reaction. Doesn't seem that having stinky feet would help much in those circumstances. Maybe even nail you a second time just for tasting and smelling so rotten. (apologies to all "garlicaholics").
