Copper wire for winding is coated with a thin layer of something, is it possible to dye this stuff?

A few years ago using Joyce's suggestion, I found a shop that rebuilds small motors.  There I was able to get copper wire in sizes from large to very tiny.  Colors were limited but sizes were many.

I used to do a lot of coil winding and still have a bunch of wire. I have some 60 to 70 gauge wire that Don O could use to tie a copper john on a size 32 hook. I have some that is silver wire as well. Most all of it is soft copper and is what I use for tying. If folks want I can try to take some photos and post them. Will have to inventory what I have left and post that as well.
