Toluene is not terribly toxic, but will act as a narcotic when inhaled in large quantities (this is also known as sniffin glue...). I doubt whether you could've made a head cement with polystyrene and gasoline, since gasoline won't readily dissolve it. there are better solvents to do that, such as ethyl acetate.
