I don't live there but you will probably get a chance to see me out there this or next year if all works out as planned. Most of my knowledge of the area comes from a few trips that way years back and from a close friend who lived in the area, soon to return. Speaking of which...
My very good friend (age 48, single) spent a number of years in Coure d'lene after growing up in PA, Navy, Colorado, Livingston (worked for Bailley's) first. He's in PA now taking care of family and plans to move back to Idaho in March just due east of you... roughly around the intersection of routes 2 and 95 where his friend Jim lives.
He's an engineering and computer whiz but hates it. His first love is the remote mountains and rivers and he hates crowds. The guy can tie beautiful flys (he taught me how to tie parachutes many years back) and cast a line as pretty as a picture but his typical day fishing is to get there and just take in nature. I've sat for hours with him just watching rises, bugs and critters without a word... just a nod now and then to acknowledge some form of nature.
Spoke with him for hours last night and asked him about what job he might find in so rural an area. He spoke of starting some sort of outfitting service, but knowing him it would kill him to show anyone such a pristine area for fear it would bring more people.
The thought is to see if I can get you two to meet and possibly steer him back towards his love of fly fishing and tying flys. Now, as pretty a fly as I've seen him tie puts him up there with many of the best... same with casting and all self-taught, but he knows an ugly wrap of fuzz will catch him a fish as well. I'd like to see him tie for the beauty he can create with his talent and maybe find some peace.
If you're willing to give it a try, I know how to show appreciation and hospitality. He is one of my best friends and life has dealt him a few blows in the old smile. Contact me off-list and let me know what you think if you have time. Worst that could happen is that we could all go fish a bit, have a beer, tie a fly and tell some tales. I'll take care of the intros if you'd like to meet an interesting new buddy.
As far as those 2/0 flys go, I might be able to tie some if they fit the vise. I know 6/0s don't. BTW, do you work for one of the outfitters or shops in the area? Are your favorite patterns those that you have invented or learned from friends that aren't in books? Just curious.

I been fishing those big trout for years in the Kootenai River ,in Libby,Montana ,that is where I live . I use 2/0 hooks and number two hooks flies tied in chartreuse ,white and sculpins tied with tan or cotton tail color fur works best.Those Clousers style flies work well also . I understand totally your reasons for re-cycling them Murf and have no problem with it whatsoever. I got them from Iain Short out of curiosity. They JUST fit in my vice and I have tied a few creations on them.
