Folks: After all the questions I had about a new fly rod, or rod/reel
combo, and after all the great tips, ideas, and suggestions I bought a (Please
do NOT shoot Me for this LOL)Wal Mart special LOL.. But.... I LOVE it...
Accurate, and I can cast it a country mile... It is an 8ft VERY slow action 5/6
weight "Crystal River" brand Cahill Model CH-765..Graphite.It loads great,
and the line seems to just shoot out through the leaders like greased
lightening.. That heavy rod I did have (which I will keep to salt water
fish when I go to FL either March or April, and as often as possible after
that )was bad on me from my shoulders to my wrist after a long day. This thing
weighs all of about three ounces.I have only been out twice since I had it..
Very windy and the fish were NOT cooperating, but I can make the fly land MUCH
easier with this rod too. I'm sure this rod is not for everybody, but it works
great for Me. I just kept My reel (and the money it would have taken to buy
another) LOL.. Cause I am cheap, and I decided that all I need it for is to hold
My line....Anyway, that was the story of the new rod for now anyway...I just
love the slender shaft and limberness of this rod, cause a 4 ounce Bluegill
feels like a BIG fish....Anyway, I like it a lot... Also, does anybody
here fly fish in the surf in the Gulf of Mexico???? If so, for what
species??? and what type flies... Thanks again to everybody for all the great
tips, suggestions and ideas. It ended up like one of Jimmy D's quotes the other
day.. I waggled that thing for an hour in the store, trying to make up My mind,
but not till I got to the lake did i have a clue as to whether I'd keep it or
take it back for a refund LOL, Chuck
