Lots of little flies I’ve used on the mullet- little SJ worms, caddis, nymphs, spun dear tied like a little piece of bread(hence the caddis) and little scud/shrimp patterns. You could also use a little piece of pink or red wool tied onto a hook.  I have an article I could post you ….remind me tomorrow and I’ll hunt for it. The same works for garfish and the small baities.

Dan: I noticed at our Wal Mart Super Sucker Center that MOST fish,and seafood, no matter the species had an "imported" sticker. The shrimp all seem to come from some third world country. Probably raised in the sewers LOL...... I thought "I'm only 225 miles from some of the best shrimp in the world, WHY would I want it imported from a Third world country?" Obviously I did NOT buy any. Just thought it funny how they could ship them that far and they say "FRESH" on the label. Right after I got out of the Air Force in 1980, I went to work on a Shrimp Boat out of Niceville FL, and it went along the Gulf from Niceville FL to Galveston TX, unless, at the halfway point the coolers were over half full, then we'd turn around and hopefully have a full load by the time we got back to Niceville. Well, I always wondered (they didn't have the Quick Freeze freezers they have today, at least not on those boats).It was "something Brothers Seafood Company  ", Jimmy D. You may remember the family name, but they are huge in Niceville there. Anyway, the answer other that ice to keep them "fresh" was none other than formaldehyde (embalming fluid) I tell ya, I didn't last but a cpl trips cause the "deck hands" only got paid a "share" of the catch, and we caught hardly anything, and it was HARD work, long hours, soaking wet... etc etc ... After that, the only shrimp I ate was right off the individual boats that went out that day, or night, then came back in, and I'd buy them right off the boat.Around here, we wade the creeks, turning over rocks for the Crawdads. Tiny for the most part, but GOOD eating and GREAT bait for Small Mouthed Bass.. Chuck

Anyway, to make this post fly fishing related, did anybody ever try fly fishing for Mullet??? If so,did they bite??? what fly did ya use etc ect .... I LOVE Smoked (and fried) Mullet and LOVE the Mullet Gizzards even better than the fish

Chuck and DonO, et al;

Chuck: Gumbo file` is sassafras leaves.  Tasty stuff it is.

DonO: Most crawfish are farm raised in the rice fields
these days. They are pretty good.  You just want to stay
away from the imported ones from China. Of course, those
are just tails, so we don't have to worry about them being in a
boil! LOL  Had some pretty small ones for the past
few years. Last year however, they were big like in
the past!  IIIIIIEEEEEE!

If at first you don't succeed, maybe you shouldn't try sky diving!
