I found some in a small farm pond here in the Southern Tier region of NY.

According to Voshell's "A Guide to Common Freshwater In;vertebrates of North
America" (A guidebook I recommend)the adults range from 5 to 20 mm. The ones
I found maxed out at about 10 mm.

They crawl along the bottom and are very secretive.
