| I lived in Austria for two years, spent one of those years in Vienna. That was long before I started fly fishing, and I can honestly say fishing never crossed my mind while I was there. Back then the Danube was so dirty (a sewage dump for a least five major European cities) that there was a cholera out break in the city caused by an Italian Ice vendor who was washing his equipment in the river. I don't know if it is any better today. Vienna is on the same lowland area shared by Germany, you have to travel a bit to get into the famous Austrian Alps where I assume famous Austrian fish swim in the freestone rivers. I suspect you will have your hands full with the architecture, museums, culture, and FOOD. There is a saying that the "Germans eat to live, but the Austrians live to eat". Austria is to Germany as the deep South is to the USA, the people are friendly, laid back, and love good food. Find a a Deli that cuts Emmentaller Kase from the big wheel and eat it on a Zemmel with a thick spread of unsalted sweet cream butter... (I gained twenty pounds in Vienna).
