Fishing is a lot like life.  When we’re small, we can’t do a lot for ourselves.  When we’re beginning fishermen, it’s the same. But, in both cases, there’s usually a caring person who takes our hand and shows us the way.  Murf was that person for many of us on the VFB from beginning fly tyers to old and grizzled guys like me.  In his "off list emails", he taught me not to get so exasperated by wayward posts to the list.  More than once, he said to me “Jimmy, the guy was kidding. Cut him some slack.”  Murf had a way of chewing me out and “making me like it”. That’s a rare quality today.
