I wont bore everyone with my trip results but I thought I would just shout here - horray for fly fishing. I miss the rivers and streams of the mainland. We do have perfect weather here in Hawaii but the miles of rivers on the mainland produce supreme heart pulls.
I flew to Salt Lake City a couple of weeks ago. I fished when I could on the Provo before driving to a conference in Spokane. My son wanted to go with me. I was suprised because he has not really gotten into the flyfishing sickness. We stopped at the Beaverhead and he caught a few fish including the biggest one. Rather than disappointed I was happy. He continued to remind me on the trip of his accomplishment. I did not bring up the fact that I caught three times as many. We then stopped on Rock Creek in Montana. It was a chocolate color but we caught a few fish. I would love to get back there in the fall. Then it was on to Spokane. On the way back we fished again on the Beaverhead with plans to fish the Madison the next day. The fellow at the fly shop in Dillon was not too high on that so I made a management decision and we drove to the Green. It was a great day on the Green. We did well even though we did not have the right imitation for the baetis hatch that was getting so many heads popping out of the river.
Then it was back on the plane and I am here in paradise again waiting for the fall when I get to return to the rivers.
I felt bad that I was not more organized and could have linked up with Larry, Joyce and others in Utah. When you are dealing with family sometimes you grab bits of light here and there. All in all it was a great trip.
As a side note for Buggs, we were driving into Pinedale, WY, planning to stop for supper. We had the local radio station on and heard an alert that an excaped convict was on the loose. He had long hair and a beard. He was thought to have been spotted that day in Pinedale and he had cut his hair and beard. We were a little nervous thinking that it may be Buggs or some other alter ego and with the lack of good description who would know but we pulled into the cafe. He did not abduct us so we made our way on down to the Green.
Good fishing to all,
Mike
