For those who have been looking at these
C&F Slit Foam fly boxes and felt a sting in the wallet every time... here's
a tip:
Recipe:
* Plastic box
with flat top/bottom
*
Sharp point scalpel blade (+ a handle which I didn't have... but I was
lucky to have a plaster)
* Ruler
* Adhesive craft foam sheet
... and that's about it. The "check if work"
I did a minute ago worked perfect. When the foam strips are prepared, put them
in "segment by segment", pushing them tight next to eachother... and the slits
will hold the flies nicely into place. My little experiment
box had 4 foam strips, 8 flies each. When done it was loaded with 32 flies
(from wet #10 to dry #16), dropped on the floor a few times and
banged against my knee a few times (with the flies up-side-down). What
did I see when I opened it... if not 32 flies sitting nicely lined up. To
challange it I then took a Chili Pepper on a #10, 2x long hook. Heavy hook
with the bead pretty far out from the foam. An up-side down bang bang bang
bang... but no problem. Didn't move.
Only "backside" was that the thickest of the
foam sheets I could find in the craft store (ca 2.5mm) was blue
(uuurrrrrkkk)... but I guess it's true: You get what you paid for. $1.20 for a
9x12 inch self adhesive foam sheet.
Now I will rip the foam
from my worn out boxes and convert them into N/J C&F SB
Inc. boxes.
