I just add a fly. Takes away much of the
hassle with floatants. If the fish is going back, why bother taking it up and
end up with standing with slimy hands for nothing.
The way I do it is simple. Just take
the pliers and pinch the last millimeter of the tippet end flat. This gives
you a bigger area for the drop of superglue that you add next... and finally,
just take the fly and stick the tippet to its belly. (This will
also help to shoot the leader... since now the tippet get its own belly and
won't have to rely on the energy from the fly line.)

Jester, do you suggest to add a hook too? Or
should a practice fly work as well?

I've been using them for at least 5 years or
more. Swapped some tying materials with Jim Hatch on the old
Virtual Fly Shop Chat room. I don't make them but usually swap
flies, hooks or tying materials. Once I tried them I've never
went back to the standard leaders.
Most of the furled leaders are 5 to 7 feet
long. I usually start with 5 feet of tippet material. I
use them for trout and warm water fishing. Haven't gotten around
to using them in salt water.
All the ones I have are made from
thread. I wasn't that impressed by the mono ones I've
tried.
