The only place I'd end up using a 10 ft rod would proabaly be at the beach flyfishing the surf (there I usually use a 9 ft rod).  that would give me extra distance and I usually don't have to worry about obstructions behind me...most of my rods are either 8 or 8 1/2 fters...I only have two 9 ft rods (I've got at least 8 different rods...probably more...)

I just finished building my new Sage XP 9 ft. 5 wt. , something I
have wanted to do ever since I cast an XP four or five years ago.

I also have Loomis IMX 7 wt. blank I bought on ebay about 3 years ago
and decided to wrap it too. After gluing on the reel seat, handle and
tip I laid the rod out to measure the guide spacing... and was
shocked to find it was a 10 foot blank!  I am certain that it was
listed as a 9 foot rod on ebay.

I'm going to finish building it anyway.

Have any of you fished with a 10 foot rod?  Any comments as to
advantages?  Have any of you cast or fished with the IMX blank?

Thanks,

Tom
