For size 10 hooks and up you may also wish to consider the Herters #  11.
I have one of these in my collection.  By tightening a lever you close the
cast iron jaws.

I also have a small but growing collection of vintage vises.  Several of
them
are home-made jobs that are most likely 1950's and earlier.

Perhaps folks who collect old vises would be interested in contributing
images to a web site dedicated to old vises???

I have web space that I am willing to dedicate to the cause.  I find that
info on the vises is hard to come by especially when the vise carries no
markings.
