During the season opener, one of our local guides, (Tom Loe , Sierra Drifters), out of Mammoth Lakes, CA  took a client to Hot Creek and caught an 8 Lb, 28" Brown on a size 20 midge. What's amazing is that Hot Creek is only about 4 miles long and is well known for highstick nymphing in the channels between the  weedbeds. It also has one of the highest fish counts of any stream in the Sierras as most of the browns are in the 14-16" size. The guide and his client got there about 7:00 am and spotted the big brown working along the bank. The client made a perfect cast and hooked up. The guide said that the brown went up and down the creek creating a massive wake behind it. Fortunately, they were able to keep the brown from going under the weedbeds or undercut banks. They were able to C&R the brown and take some pics of the fish.
