Rene,
Some years ago in the month of March, I was fishing at
the Cotter Access with a # 14 fly tied on a scud hook.
It had a dubbed body and a soft hackle. The catching
was almost unbelievable. At about 60 trout there was
almost nothing left on the hook. My hands were too
cold to change the fly and I was still catching so I
left it on. The hook was finally just a bare hook and
I was hooking up on every cast. Had some people
watching and counting. It was just one of those
unbelievable days. According to one counting, I landed
89 trout.
I would guess over 20 on a bare hook.
When I got home I posted on the old Flytyers list
"Bare Hook Matches the Hatch". (Some of you old timers
that were on that list might remember) I got a number
of replies that using a bare hook in their state was
illegal unless the hook was of a given color, Missouri
being one of them.
That was one of the best (catching) days I have ever
had.
Now about fishing last evening. Only hooked two trout,
lost both of them. Not all of my fishing days are good
"catching" days
Tony
