I just repaired a Graphite rod that was broken at the
first tip guide. The I.D. of the broken tip was too
small to insert a graphite "plug". I used a length of
spring wire, (the type used for landing gear on model
airplanes) at the break, Rough up the wire with a file
and glue it in with Two Ton Epoxy. Don't use the five
minuet stuff.
For repairs where I can use a length old graphite rod,
I rough up the outer side of the "plug" and glue it in
as above. Wrap the area with thread to pull it all
together, wipe down with Denatured alcohol to clean
the outer glue off. After the glue sets, remove the
thread, smooth the area if needed and wrap the area
like the guides are wrapped. Apply Flex Coat to the
wraps.
