In his article Feathered Splendor in the current issue of FLY TYER  Don refers to the book Forgotten Flies.  What he leaves out in his article is the fact that he tied many of the wet flies for the book.
The first time I saw him tie was at the NJ Somerset show.  He tied a Yellow Sally  explaining each step to a  thirteen year old boy then signed his card hooked the fly to it and handed it to the boy.  He was so surprized he needed a prod to remind him to say thank you.  As he was to be the guest speaker at  the Wilkes-Barre TU chapter the following month he also offered to sign my copy of Forgotten Flies at the meeting which he did do for me.
Williamsport is 60 miles west of Wilkes-Barre on the west branch of the Susquehanna river.  There must be something in the water there as John Alden Knight (Moon Up Moon Down the Solunar Thory) and othe books, and Mike O'Brien editor and publisher of the Mid Atlintic Fly Fishing Guide are also from Williamsport.
