I am now a 21 year survivor of a massive heart attack and was on Mevacor for
the first 17 years and have been on Lipitor for the past 4 years without any
problems. My cardiologist does all the blood work annually and so far
everything has remained normal.
As a retired hospital pharmacist, I can truly appreciate this class of drugs
(aka "statins"). They have truly added to the increased longevity that we
enjoy. That said, not all drugs are for all people, not all bodies are alike
and do not react similarly. That is why we have so many choices from which
to choose.

No Tony, IMHO everyone should know about the awful things that class of
drug can do. And Lipitor and all of the statin drugs all cause serious
liver disease, muscle aches with the big name, and short term memory loss,
they can kill you.
Make sure your doc sent you to a dietitian and a exercise plan first for 6
months. Then starts on a minimum dose first, not the usual max dose and
assumes you are on a diet & walking plan.
The nice part is fly fishing is a active walking sport, so park further
away and go for the 10K steps per day. Aim for 10% fat in your diet(this
gets you to 25%) and in 6 months rather than a week you will be close to
your numbers. Or you have a inherited problem and can thank grand dad.
