Today my fising buddy Ron Foreman and I went fishing on the East Fork of the Calcasieu River (Saturday).  We got there and were fishing by 7:15 am.  We had one two hits between that time  and 11:00 am (presumably one bream and a small needlefish.  Neither ended up being hooked.  As a last resort I tied on a ver small size 10 spoon fly (originally tied for small ladyfish).  I ended up catcing two juvenile bass (larger was 9") and a good sized bluegill in the last hour we fished.  Ron tied on a size 6 spoon fly and got 3 hits...but he was striking too soon.  He kept pulling the fly out of the fish's mouth.  One of the fish jumped...a 12"  bass.  Another hit near the boat, and I saw the fish, about another 9"er.  So the report from the east fork are much more encoraging than those from Sam Houston  Jones  park  on the west fork.  I  was surprised  that the effective fly ended up being a sppon fly...traditionally a salt water fly.
