Well, I made some progress today.
We had a cold front blow through last night and the high so far has
been right at 58ยบ. Overcast, a little drizzle off and on, just a cool fall
day. Bones are achy and joints sore, so it will not be gone to fast.
One of those days that are so common in winter, you just want to sit
and read or tie flies. Well, I did the later. Am almost totally out of #8
and #10 long shanks, so I kept looking at the #12 nymph hooks. I
successfully tied 6 #12 bead chain eyed nymph today. Had to take my time
and teach my left hand what I wanted it to do. But with a bit of coaxing we
did fine.
Not a fly from any recipe I am aware of, Bend up, pheasant tail fibers
for a tail, medium brown dubbing rope dubbed for the body, Bead chain eyes
on the bottom, thorax is of peacock hurl with an iridescent wing case with
a drop of Sally Hansen's on it. Nothing fancy, but was a good workout and
it gives me hope that with continued challenges I will again someday be
tying back down to the 20's and such.
I want to try this on a 14, but the bead chain would be way to large to
tie anything else in after they were on. Anyone ever do this? If so, where
did you find the small bead chains?
Going to enjoy a hot cup and may venture back to the bench for a couple
more flies.
