$1.348. mil.     Not bad for a day of fishing.

Two weeks before my first trip to Loreto about 8 years ago, a fisherman landed a 717lb black marlin in a panga!!!  -On conventional 'light' gear!

I figure if he can do it on a light reel with 80lb test, a flyfisherman with a 17wt, w/60lb backing, and 50lb test tippet might have a shot at a 500lb'er.

If he would have caught that fish in the tournament, it would have been worth $2.5 million or more.  The winning fish at the 2005 Bisbee was 531lbs.

I'm in the wrong business...

The Bisbee tournament was held up a day by that small hurricane that blew across Cabo.
It started this morning with a shotgun start, 400+ teams of anglers, &

$4.237 million in cash awards!

If my marlin fly catches a billfish, it will be the first time in the history of the tournament that a fly has caught one.
