Glenn,   I basically taught myself how to tie flies by looking at the patterns in “Fish Flies” out in my neck of the woods there are few people who tie, overall there are a lot of tyers etc. in the Northwest just the little county I’m in has a shortage it seems... with no fly shops at all. So I got a copy of Terry’s book while visiting Montana, it seemed like the best book in the store to learn patterns out of and that fact still holds true to this day. Aside from the vfb Terry basically taught me to tie flies and now a few of my own flies are due to show up in Gary Souce’s book “Muddler Magic” and I’m just a hobby guy. Makes me proud to own “Fish Flies” in fact I just referred to it the day before yesterday... I spent all evening perusing 717 pages and realized what a treasure this will be to my reference library. Along with Hughes'  Trout Flies and Leeson-Schollmeyers'  Benchside Reference, Fish Flies will be a real go-to book for me. The information that is most useful to me is how Terry goes into the history of a particular pattern.
