I would only modify the tip. The pointier the better for the smaller
flies...gives more access.

I would seriously consider a mongoose blackfoot or the other mongoose model
very similar to it. I don't know how much you will look at spending but you
can get it for US$120 plus or minus a dollar or two. It is a sturdy, useful
vice, comes with C-clamp and pedestal, rotates, etc. I am getting one as
soon as I begin working in a month or so. Some of the more expensive vices
look 'better' but it is a fantastic vice. I have used a dozen odd vices and
found this one to be economical and overall fantastic, especially for the
price(esp. if you buy t from tax-free Oregon). Other than that, if you need
a cheaper one, go for the Thompson type vice. It does whatever you need and
is much cheaper. Don't worry what people crap on about the head cracking and
so forth. Unless you are tying SERIOUS numbers of flies, it will last for
years and you can get cheap versions for pocket money. Let me know which way
you head.

Well guy i couldn't make up my nind on what vise to buy,so i got me a bolt
and 3 nuts some square stock and round stock and throught in my vise shook
it up and came out with not a bad tying vise,if i do say so my self(got the
pattern off e-bay)very simple one for sur, so i might just buy one off
it.thank for all the help
