Yesterday was a record warm November day in Utah and my fishing
buddy and I both took the day off to enjoy it. (We are both teachers
at the same school, so when we are gone on the same day everybody
knows what's up).
We decided to hit Strawberry Reservoir to fish for the 20+ inch
Cutthroat that move into the shallows spring and fall. (Dr.
Strawberry, as it is known by teachers taking "mental health" leave)
I had only two fish on and lost them both, but my buddy landed
seven... all over 20 inches. It was just one of those days.
The wind picked up around 2:00 pm so we headed out and after a quick
lunch headed homeward. We still had a couple of hours of daylight so
we stopped to fish the good old Weber River. This river has often
soothed my wounds after being beat up on more "exalted" waters, and
it came through again. With both of us fishing the same hole from
opposite sides of the river (trading casts) I got 14 browns and my
buddy only caught one lowly Whitefish.
Somehow it evened up the cosmic balance and we both went home happy.
