Nick;

The same thing happened to British Fly Reels that latterly produced the
popular "system" reels for Scientific Anglers. BFR was purchased by Orvis
about 3 years ago and the production since moved to China. Personally, I
can't get excited about a fly reel made in China. Even the venerable Orvis
CFO fly reel, formerly made by Hardy, then BFR is now made in China. Modern
CNC (computer numeric controlled) machining has allowed this to happen. I
wonder if the CNC lathes, milling machines etc are also made in China?

Even the current Swedish Loop reels are now made in Korea I believe,
although Danielsson Innovation of Sweden still make the former Loop reels
now called Danielsson Fly Reels after their agreement with Loop ended.

Recently, I was trying to locate a "Mid Head" fly line produced by
Scientific Anglers/3M because a club member and friend received one of these
lines in a batch of several provided to him for testing. I could not locate
any SA lines with the Mid Head description and so I emailed SA and asked.
A few days later I received an e-mail advising that they would mail me a
copy of their latest catalogue but never answered my question about the
mystery Mid Head designated line. I forgot about it for a while until
several weeks later when I found a thick envelope in my mail box marked Air
Mail with a 3M General Office label and sent from DLWW Inc. Malmo, Sweden.
Inside were two 3M line catalogues.

I guess it's all my fault. It's a "trend" I can't escape. I started working
at Ericsson in Söderhamn. Ericsson had been here for ages and was a part of
the city. It was a place which everyone KNEW would stay. But it was bought
by Emerson... and moved to China.
