Seems we've covered what size should be used on what hook, what makes them
break, and now why the same "-X" ratings can have different breaking
strength.
My question now is do you all use different makes/brands for different kinds
of trout fishing and why?
I qualify it with "trout fishing" because it is obvious that flats fishing
for bones will have differnt needs different from throwing bass bugs which
is different from trout fishing applications.
For example, for my trout fishing I have used pretty much all DaiRiki mono
tippett in sizes 6X-1X on Orvis super strong mono leaders for the last 5-7
years only changing sizes based on what kind of fishing I'm doing and the
size of the fly. It has worked well enough, but I often wonder if there is
a "better" specialty solution for nymphing that would give the nymph a more
life-like presentation, a better leader/tippett for dry flies that would
reduce the drag or line visibility on the surface, a tougher/more abrasion
resistant tippet for streamers, etc.
Also, I can't find the Dai Riki I liked anymore so I need to go with
something new and was wondering if I should stick w/ a single brand/model
system or go with a "specialized" system.
Or should I stick with what has worked and quit over-complicating this whole
thing and spend more time fishing and less time thinking?
